Conservation Culture and Community
in the Samburu
The day began with a wonderful opportunity to meet with the founder
of the 'Save the Elephants' conservation project. In order to learn
more of the history, development and future plans of this sustainable
initiative we were able to visit the centre of the Elephant Watch
Safaris before travelling through the afternoon heat to Archers
Post Manyatta,a Samburu village within the reserve. We departed
at dusk following a traditional village welcome of singing and dance.
Back at the research centre, evening
conversation continued well into the night as we explored the relationship
between conservation and the peoples of Samburu.
