Day 15 Wednesday 11th September
Lake Naivasha and Grazing Hippos
A Chance to Pause on the Tranquil Shores of the Lake.
Under cloudy skies the team gathered provisions in preparation for the long drive towards Lake Victoria and our first border crossing to Tanzania.

Day 16 Thursday 12th September
Journeying West
Observing the Changes in Terrain, Climate, Vegetation and Altitude.
The changing face of the African landscapes bathed in people. As we followed undulating roads, the vegetation was transformed from arid sun-washed savannah to lush green cloud drenched slopes. Workers in yellow garb punctuated the distant horizons of the tea plantations which framed our journey.

Day 17 Friday 13th September
From Tea Plantation to Migori
Bustling to a Vibrant Border Culture.
After a night camping in the old colonial grounds of the Tea Hotel we embarked upon our last long drive into South West Kenya. We arrived at the Girango Hotel to be met by a friendly and easy going staff who provided us with a warm and hospitable establishment bustling with local activity and the bonus of a live band.

Day 18 Saturday 14th September
An Early Start
Borders and Bureaucracy
As we prepared for the twenty minute drive to the Isabania border, delay was followed by relief as we drove into a new country. A cool early morning breeze pushed us from office to office as we danced our paperwork past official after official in order to gain clearance for ourselves and the expedition truck. Following many discussions with officers of the Tanzanian immigration service we were granted clearance to cross the border into the now scorching Tanzanian sun.

Day 19 Sunday 15th September
An enforced delay at the backstreet Orange Tree Hotel in Musoma.
Rest, Realisation and Reality
From early frustration the day developed to become one of rest and consolidation.
As we awaited bank and bureau opening we seized the opportunity to take some rest and unwind from the punishing schedule of working under the African sun. The team took the opportunity to wash clothing, write journals and prepare for the next chapter of our unfolding adventure.

Day 20 Monday 16th September
Entering the western corridor of the Serengeti
Bureaucracy to Beauty - The Rolling Expanse of the Serengeti Plains.
After an early morning of money changing and collecting water and provisions we departed for our journey to the wild horizons of the Serengeti. En route to the Seronera campsite we spotted our first male lion basking in the shade from the unforgiving sun. The tortuous roads rattled us on towards our evening canvas refuge.

Day 21 Tuesday 17th September
One day in the Serengeti for game drive and experiencing Africa in the raw.
Africa a Day of Double Rainbows and Dreams Realized.
We awoke again under canvas and emerged to gaze over the dune plains, eyes searching for glimpses of large game while our ears were filled with the sounds of insects, birds and the power of the wind. We seized an opportunity to game drive with Noel, a park guide from the Serengeti visitors centre, and set out to bump along forty five kilometres of track. Our first sightings were of hippo, crocodile, lions, elephant and giraffe. Further on we slowed the vehicle to reveal on the near horizon a lone cheetah perched elegantly and attentively on an earth mound, and surveying the territory we watched in awe as this powerful creature jogged away towards the next horizon. Our guide was able to breathe life into the rolling plains as he informed us of the habits and characteristics of the visible game. Eyes searching in the distance for life were directed into action by the words of the gamekeeper and we observed creatures of all sizes going about their daily business seemingly unaware of our presence.
