spinal cord injury by challenging perceptions of disability.
To document and record wheelchair travel through Kenya,
Tanzania and Zambia.
To highlight the barriers and boundaries facing not
only the team, but also other wheelchair travellers during
the project and within East Africa.
To explore in-depth East Africa, its peoples and traditions
and to break away from the tourist route, visiting projects
offering facilities and resources for the disabled.
Filming the expedition to bring the experiences back
to the United Kingdom.
•To learn more about the work of the IMPACT
Foundation and their supported projects in Kenya and Tanzania.
To develop, test and produce an information/assessment
criteria for companies offering accommodation and facilities
for the disabled travellers.
Developing new opportunities through the creation
of new equipment for disabled adventurers, with the Adventure
Designs Project at Brunel's Design for Life Centre and Equal
Adventure in the UK.
Objectives
Via the website to share knowledge of Africa, wheelchair
travel and contacts for future travellers and researchers
to experience Africa.
To enable the expedition team to edit and collate
the video footage, stills photos and journal to prepare
a presentation for those wishing to travel to Africa, or
those with an interest in the African continent/conservation
and disability awareness.
To promote inclusive expeditions and highlight the
opportunities and the potential for shared learning and
exchanging skills.
To record and document the encounters and experiences
of this inclusive expedition edited into a multi media presentation.
To showcase the triumphs and successes of disabled
individuals, projects and groups including links via the
website.
To gather information and visit organisations offering
accommodation and facilities for the disabled traveller
including links and details online.
To formalise an assessment criteria for disabled accommodation/facilities
for travellers and submit criteria to travel guide publishers
and web resources.
